Ashanti enjoys a date with a mystery male companion

Ashanti looked to be enjoying her single status as she stepped out with a handsome companion.
The R&B singer, 33, wore a beaming smile as she arrived at Philippe restaurant in Beverly Hills on Tuesday.
The star looked radiant in black leather minidress featuring a blue swirling design, which was teamed with black pointed-toe heels and a slick of red lipstick.

Her mystery companion wore a casual outfit, wearing a Yves Saint Laurent T-shirt, black trousers, trainers and a checked shirt around his waist.
Ashanti was recently asked by New York radio station Hot 97 if she and hip-hop artist Nelly, who broke up last year after a nine year on-off relationship, were back together.
She said: ‘Negative. Nelly and I are in the space where I’m kind of like focusing on my career and he’s focusing on what he’s doing … I have to do me.

We’re in that space right now. And there were things that were said and things that were done that probably shouldn’t have been said or done, but they have been.’
‘When people are around each other a long time, there are feelings and there are things there and people get hurt. Men handle hurt differently than women handle hurt.’
‘He put a couple of scars on me. We’ve definitely scarred each other and its safe to say,’ she added.

She also revealed to theGrio that she is attracted by independence and confidence in a man.
She said: ‘It’s important because I can take care of myself,’ Ashanti said. ‘So I need someone that’s really confident and really secure in themselves, so that we both bring something to the table.’
The star’s new album, Braveheart  is set for release in early 2014, while she also stars in new film Christmas in the City, playing the role of Teanna, a shop assistant.

Ashanti skyrocketed to fame when she released her debut album in 2002.
Her singles Foolish and What's Luv? simultaneously held the top two spots on the Billboard charts, while in 2003, she won her first Grammy for Best Contemporary R&B album.
